Nick Varner & Johan Ruijsink Named Mosconi Cup Captains

Nick Varner and Johan Ruijsink will lead America and Europe, respectively, into battle at the 17th running of the PartyCasino.net Mosconi Cup from Thursday, December 9 through Sunday, December 12, 2010 at East London's famous York Hall.

Both team captains have tournament experience: Varner has attended as a player and skipper and led his men to victory in Las Vegas last December: three-time and so far undefeated European captain Ruijsink and his team were victorious in the same city in 2007.

7 Pool Legends To Gather In Denver For Once-In-A-Lifetime Pool Weekend

For the first time ever, seven living billiards legends (The Magnificent 7) will come together for one magical weekend to impart their pool knowledge on a lucky group of twenty people. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will take place at Billiards Ink in Denver, Colorado from November 12-14. Attendance is limited to 20 participants.

The Magnificent 7

Buddy "The Rifleman" Hall
Nick "The Kentucky Colonel" Varner
Mike "Captain Hook" Sigel
Earl "The Pearl" Strickland
Johnny "The Scorpion" Archer
Keith "Earthquake" McCready
Jimmy "Pretty Boy Floyd" Mataya

Schedule of Events

Friday November 12th

7:00pm - Champagne reception and meet & greet at Billiards Ink

Saturday November 13th

9:00am - Breakfast (cooked to order)

10:00am - Pool Clinic
All VIP guests will be separated into groups of 3 and will then spend one hour with each of the seven pros. The pros can obviously only show you so much in that time frame and so they will be be focusing on answering your questions about the game and showing you some of their own tricks of the trade. There will be a 5 to 10min break between each hour.

1:00pm - Lunch

2:00pm - Clinic resumes

7:00pm - Dinner

The pool clinic will then be done for the day, but the night will still be young.

Sunday November 14th

9:00am - Breakfast

10:00am - Begin the Pro-Am Scotch Doubles Tourney. A 20-team bracket will be in place for a 9-Ball single elimination race to three. Each VIP guest will be drawn to play with one of the Pros; as a pro is eliminated he will be assigned a new partner from the remaining VIP guests.
There will be a $200.00 prize for the winning team and a trophy for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Lunch will be served around 1:30pm during the tourney.

3:00pm - Q&A Session/Story time: The pros will answer all your questions and tell some of their stories from all their years on the road that some of them have shared. This part is probably going to be very funny.

5:00pm - Break to change and rest (approximate break time, depending on how long the Magnificent 7 keep the talk going).

7:00pm - Farewell Banquet and Awards. (Probably Surf n Turf)

8:00pm - Exhibition: Each of the Pros will do a 25-30 min show that highlights their own personal exhibitions.

11.30pm - Photos, autographs and farewells

**The weekend-long event will be held in a private setting; all meals are included and will be eaten together as a group.

The fee per VIP for this once-in-a-lifetime piece of history is $800.00. All food is included in the price.

For more information or to sign up please contact Mark Cantrill at 480-612-7732 or email cantrillmark@yahoo.com. Two hotels are offering special guest rates; the Hyatt for $89.00 per night and La Quinta for $62.00 per night. VIPs will be shuttled back and forth twice a day.

3-Year-Old Pool Prodigy Sets World Record

From the APA: On Aug. 29, Keith O’Dell, Jr. set the world record for the youngest person to legally jump a cue ball over a full pool ball. The record has been accepted by the World Record Academy and is in the works to get it online and in the record book.

Three-year-old Keith, Jr., set the record at his family home. His father, Keith, Sr., says that the first time he jumped, it was an accident. He and his father were playing a game of 8-Ball and the cue ball became frozen to the rail. Keith, Jr., jacked up to shoot and the cue ball came off the table. “I sent McDermott a video of him jumping and they built Keith an amazing custom jump cue from his own (Pool Prodigy) line,” Keith, Sr., said. “The day we got the jump cue, he jumped the cue ball into the rack and the rest is history.”
